Six Desserts That The Balinese People Love
Bubur – Black Rice Pudding (Coconut Milk, Palm Sugar And Black Rice)
Bubur which can also be called Bubur Injin or sometimes, Bubur Ketan Hitamis is a sort of sweet black rice pudding.
They use black gelatinous rice as the base and then drown it in coconut milk and palm sugar. Then they serve it with some fresh grated coconut.
Pisang Goreng – Fried Bananas
Pisang Goren is also sometimes called Godoh Biu. It’s a deep-fried, battered banana.
You will find it tastes sweet and pleasant thanks to the caramelization of the bananas (they use small ones for extra sugar).
It’s best eaten hot (or it can end up oily and unpleasant) and it’s often served with a side of caramel sauce for extra yumminess.
Dodol – Balinese Toffee (Rice Flour Mixed With Palm Sugar)
This toffee-like candy is a popular snack for the Balinese people and it’s sold just above everywhere on the island.
They make it by melting palm sugar and then stirring in some rice flour, sometimes, they’ll add bits of fruit to influence the flavour too.
Then it’s wrapped up in dried corn skin and sold in bunches that look like bags of toffee.
Kue Kukus – (Sweet Sticky Rice And Coconut)
If you’ve ever tried Thai sticky rice, you know what to expect here.
The rice is cooked in sweet coconut milk and then they add a little black sugar. It’s the ultimate treat for a sweet tooth.
Dadar Gulung – Balinese Pancakes
This sweet Indonesian pancake is made of rice flour coloured green using pandan and then stuffed with grated coconut and palm sugar.
