Bali Butterfly Park: Your Guide To The Two Butterfly Parks On The Island

There are two great butterfly parks here in Bali. Kemenuh Butterfly Park and Bali Butterfly Park.

They don’t just showcase protected specimens from the butterfly world but also let you meet other local creatures such as large hairy spiders and huge goliath beetles.

Here’s everything that you need to know about the two butterfly parks so that you can spend some time with the beautiful butterflies in the exotic scenery of Bali.

Bali Butterfly Park (Tabanan Regency)

This park, known locally as Taman Kupu-Kupu, is based in the village of Wanasari in Tabanan (Central Bali).

The grounds cover a full hectare and nearly half of that area is dedicated to butterflies.

The Bali Butterfly Park is all about butterfly conservation and you can find national and international researchers working with endangered species at the butterfly park.

Some of the highlights of the butterfly collection here include the common birdwing, the Bali peacock and the majestic paradise birdwing.

It’s an ex-situ conservation site and that means it’s working on conserving butterflies for future generations.

They also have an indoor mini-museum here which preserves dried butterfly and insect species (this is due to the short life spans of so many of the creatures).

You can actually purchase dried samples of some of the more common species at this butterfly park.

Kemenuh Butterfly Park is roughly 30 minutes outside of Ubud and it’s a good thing to do in combination with a tour of Sukawati.

It’s the second butterfly park on the island but that doesn’t mean that Kemenuh Butterfly Park isn’t impressive.

They have over 500 different species at the Kemenuh Butterfly Park and they are free to roam all over the open space provided by the park.

Some of the most impressive specimens here include the Atlas Moth, Common Cruiser and the Papilio Peranthus.

Final Thoughts On Butterfly Parks In Bali

Both butterfly parks in Bali offer you the chance to see several endangered species in the wild and provide extensive and informative displays about the creatures in their care from odd-looking stick insects, and leaf insects, to large life-size butterflies.

The entry fees might seem a little steep for this kind of tourist attraction in Bali but the naturally short life spans of the butterflies make this kind of attraction quite expensive to run.

We think they both offer the perfect setting to come face to face with all the fascinating bug species of the Indonesian archipelago.
