FAQs
Do They Have Sushi In Bali?
Yes! In fact, you can find plenty of sushi restaurants serving authentic Japanese cuisine in Bali and not all of them are Japanese restaurants!
Tasty sushi rolls are highly desired by visitors to the island and, of course, we have the freshest catch straight from the ocean, which makes it really easy to deliver some of the tastiest Japanese food on Earth.
Wherever you are in Bali, the authentic taste of great sushi is never far away and much of it for a very reasonable price.
Our list of the 40 best Japanese restaurants (and non-Japanese restaurants that serve sushi) above will help you get started with your search for the delicious sushi of your dreams.
Which Country Is Best Known For Sushi?
Japan is, of course, the most famous country for sushi and the best Japanese restaurants almost all serve sushi.
However, though the dish is Japanese, its origins can be traced back to narezushi which is a Chinese dish that consists of fermented rice mixed with salted fish.
This dish wasn’t invented for its tastiness, in fact, it was invented nearly 200 years BC and thus, the fermentation and salting were for preserving the food (as there were no refrigerators at the time).
Interestingly, you didn’t eat the rice when you ate narezushi, you threw it out, its only purpose was to wrap the fish in to make it easier to preserve.
It made the jump to Japan in the 8th century where there was less emphasis on fermented rice and more on rice vinegar as a preservative.
Modern sushi restaurants don’t serve traditional sushi rolls but rather those modelled on the creations of Hanaya Yohei in the 19th century when he invented nigiri sushi.
Can You Eat Sashimi In Bali?
Yes, in fact, the hard part of eating sushi in Bali is going through all the Japanese restaurants in Bali and trying to choose the best Japanese restaurant to eat at.
There are so many internationally trained chefs that make super delicious sushi in Bali that you could easily spend a month or more just eating sushi without ever having to eat the same dish twice.
Which Is The Best Sushi To Try?
The best sushi to try is a matter of taste but experts recommend the Futomaki Roll, the Rainbow Roll the California Roll, Kimbap, the Salmon Skin Roll and the Spicy Tuna Roll as excellent ways to learn more about sushi rolls.
We should probably also mention the Fugu Sashi which is the most famous of sushi rolls but most Japanese restaurants in Bali won’t serve it because you can die from eating this dish if it’s not prepared properly.
What Is The Best Sushi In Bali?
We’re not being immodest when we say The Sushi Bar at FINNS in Canggu, we’re saying it because as we go to press it is the number one rated Japanese restaurant for sushi in Bali on Tripadvisor with a perfect 5-star rating from over 1,500 guests!
