Where Are Gitgit Waterfalls?
Gitgit waterfall is not, actually, a single fall. It’s a twin waterfall and it’s in North Bali not far from Singaraja. It’s one of the most famous Bali waterfalls.
It’s a pleasant 30-minute drive through the Singaraja area from Singaraja city and about 2 hours from Ubud.
How To Get To Gitgit Waterfall In Bali?
This is more of a challenge than you might think. That’s because if you put Gitgit Waterfall into Google Maps, you will find three different places to go!
The right way to do it is to use the one labelled “Gitgit waterfall car parking area” and then avoid the other two (both of which are Bali waterfalls but aren’t the right place).
There is no public transport to Gitgit Falls nor is there to any other waterfalls in this remote part of North Bali.
So, you will need to either join a Gitgit Waterfall Tour (see the FAQs below) on how to do this with the Bali Res Centre or you have a couple of other options.
You can rent a private driver and car and this is certainly a good way to enjoy this twin waterfall and to see any other waterfall nearby too. An English-speaking driver may also be able to act as a tour guide for some of these places but that’s not a guarantee.
If you’re not driving, you can enjoy the lush greenery of the countryside on your way to Gitgit Falls and it’s a safe and comfortable way to get to your destination.
If you’re coming from any further than Singaraja or Lovina Beach, this is certainly the safest way to do it.
However, be aware that there are almost no drivers around remote tourist attractions like this one and you should arrange for a return fare or to go on with the ride-share driver that brings you to Gitgit Waterfall.
You could also rent a scooter for your visit to Gitgit Waterfall but we don’t recommend it. Balinese roads aren’t very safe and even experienced riders regularly get into trouble even on the main road.
It’s also hard to be fully road-legal for a scooter journey and if you’re not 100% legal, in the event of an accident, your insurer will not pay your medical bills.
When Is The Best Time To Visit Gitgit Waterfall?
There is no bad time to visit a waterfall in Bali, but in the dry season which is the most popular time of year to come to the island, the water flows may be of a lower volume than in the wet season.
That means, if you opt for an off-peak trip to Bali, you’re coming at exactly the right time to enjoy its waterfalls.
We should also note that Gitgit Waterfall is a popular place and that means the later in the day that you arrive, the more people that will be there.
If you want to beat the crowds at any attraction in Bali, it’s best to get there early in the morning.
When Is Gitgit Waterfall Open?
Officially, the falls are open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and are only closed for the festival of Nyepi (the Hindu holy day of silence – as nobody is allowed out of their home in Bali on this day, everywhere is closed).
However, you can get access to the falls outside of these times but you may not be able to see very much as it’s dark and there is no lighting here.
Is There An Entrance Fee For Gitgit Waterfall In Bali?
Yes, there is an entrance fee – it’s 20,000 IDR for adults and children.
The Guide Scam At Gitgit Waterfall
Let’s be clear on this. You do not need to pay for a local guide to see this waterfall.
You may, however, be approached by earnest folk in the car park trying to sell you the services of a guide and acting like this is a mandatory purchase.
It isn’t and you can say “no thanks” and just keep on moving. This is better than trying to engage on the subject and avoids the prospect of any fights breaking out over it.
Don’t try and intervene if you see other tourists falling for this scam. the “guides” can get angry or even violent if you stop them from making a sale.
What To Expect At Air Terjun Kembar Gitgit
This is one of the most easily accessible waterfalls in Bali and there isa short, marked path that is in good repair.
You won’t spend more than 5-10 minutes walking to the falls and while the path isn’t wheelchair-friendly, nearly everyone should be fit enough to get to the falls and back to the car park.
Once you arrive you will be greeted by the sight of a twin waterfall, broken into 2 tiers, that crashes down into the rocks and water below.
If you get here and it’s raining, you can shelter in the small shrine/pagoda nearby, just make sure to be respectful if you do.
Tips For Visiting Gitgit Waterfall
We’ve got some tips that can help you get the most out of a visit to Gitgit Waterfall:
It’s fine to bring a drone. Not every tourist attraction in Bali is drone-friendly but this one is – you can fly to your heart’s content as long as you follow basic safety protocols.
Bring a tripod, ND filter and CPL filter. If you’re a photographer, you can get better shots of any waterfall by using a tripod and investing in an ND filter (for long exposure shots) and a circular polarizer or CPL filter (for improving the shade of blue in the sky and maximizing reflections in the water).
Bring swimming clothes and a towel. The water is cool and refreshing but there is nowhere to rent a towel from, so bring your own.
Bring snacks and a drink. Please take your rubbish with you when you leave, but this is a pleasant spot for a picnic as you enjoy the majesty of the falls.
Walk to Colek Pamor Waterfall. This waterfall is accessible directly from Gitgit (just keep following the path) and it comes from the same stream as Gitgit does.
Keep valuables in a waterproof bag – you will get wet on the way to this fall.
Bring a change of clothing – because you’re going to get wet and it’s hard to dry out on a humid day in Bali, it pays to bring spare clothing.

Can You Swim At Gitgit Waterfall In Bali?
Yes. You are fine to take a dip in the pool in front of the waterfall, it’s as good as any outdoor pool in the country.
However, we would caution you not to get too close to the falls themselves.
This is a big fall and the water comes down very hard, indeed. If you get trapped in the flow, it will be hard to get out and it’s even possible to get pulled under.
Though there is some local community involvement at this falls, we’ve never seen locals keeping an eye on the swimmers here, so if you do get pulled in – you may be entirely on your own.
What is The Most Beautiful Waterfall In Bali?
This is a purely subjective thing and we don’t have a “favourite waterfall” in Bali. That’s because they’re all quite lovely and each is very different from the next.
However, many people argue that the “hidden gem” of Sekumpul Waterfall deserves this title and we would certainly agree that it’s among the most spectacular sights on the island.
Which Is The Most Easily Accessible Waterfall In Bali?
There are quite a few waterfalls that are reasonably easy to get to but it’s probably Tegenungan Waterfall that takes the crown of “easiest” because it’s right in the middle of Ubud town.
Where In Bali Is Sekumpul Waterfall?
Sekumpul is in the North of Bali and it’s not far from Bedugul. If you wanted to visit it on the same day as Gitgit Waterfall, that would be easily possible with a driver or the right tour.
We’re not sure if there is a “most famous waterfall” as degrees of fame are hard to measure, but Gitgit Waterfall might be the most famous waterfall in Bali due to its spectacular nature and the fact that it’s located a short distance from the road.
